Height is determined primarily by genetics, with environmental factors such as nutrition, health, and exercise also playing a role. However, predicting height is not an exact science due to the numerous variables involved. Nonetheless, there are two methods that can provide a reasonable estimate:

Mid-parent Method

This method is applicable for children under 4 years old and is derived from a 1948 article by Horace Gray in the Journal of Child Development. It remains widely used today, although it has a margin of error of +/- 4 inches or 10.16 cm. The formula calculates the child's potential adult height based on the heights of their parents and their gender.

Khamis-Roche Method

This method is suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 17. Developed by Dr. Khamis and Dr. Roche, it boasts an accuracy rate of approximately 90%. It takes into account the child's age, gender, height, weight, parents' heights as well as several scaling factors and equations to predict their adult height.

Additionally, there is another method called the Bone-Age Method, which is even more accurate than the Khamis-Roche Method. However, it requires an X-ray of the hand, something that the Adult Height Calculator app cannot facilitate at present. Perhaps future versions of our smartphones will be able to do so!
